Each scale consists of a number of steps, which are also known as increments. These are the increases that you will receive in your salary scale.
Preliminary salary scales
If you do not yet have the right level in a new job, you can be placed in a preliminary salary scale for a maximum of two years. As soon as in an evaluation shows that you have reached the right level during that period, you will be placed in the job scale appropriate to your position.
A preliminary salary scale is a scale one scale number lower than the salary scale for the position. A start-up scale is a scale one scale number lower than the salary scale corresponding to the position. There is one exception to this, for salary scale 10, the starting scale is salary scale 8.
