The right working posture

It is important that you adopt the right posture at your desk. Set up your workplace accordingly, both on campus and at home.

Office chair

Set up your office chair properly. Pay attention to the following points:

  1. Make sure your feet are straight on the ground and your knees are relaxed at a 90-degree angle.
  2. Adjust your armrests to the right height; Your shoulders should be able to lean relaxed on the armrests.
  3. Secure your backrest for an upright back position.

Under most office chairs on campus, there is an instruction booklet under the seat. In this instruction booklet, you can read how to adjust the height of the parts of your chair.

Desk or work table

Adjust your desk or work table to the height of the office chair. You can adjust the height to the correct height by means of the adjustable legs, or adjust it on the side of your tabletop with automatic buttons or turning handle. You have reached the correct height of your desk if the armrests of your office chair are at the same height as your desktop.

Monitors

Most workstations have two fixed screens. Place a monitor directly in front of you, about arm's length away. Look into the upper part of your screen when looking straight ahead. Make sure you don't look over it for a good viewing height. You can turn the second screen diagonally towards you.

Computer glasses

Laptop

A laptop should not be used for more than two hours a day, unless it is equipped with a separate keyboard, a separate mouse and a laptop holder or other riser that allows the screen to be placed at eye level. Working with a laptop for long periods of time without this equipment can lead to serious health problems.

Keyboard and mouse

Make sure the keyboard isn't too far away to avoid leaning on your elbows while typing. In addition, it is important that you lay your keyboard flat so that there is no tension on your wrists. It is also possible to get a custom keyboard or mouse.

Request custom keyboard and mouse

In addition to setting up your workplace, variety of tasks is important. Therefore, take regular short breaks, especially if you work a lot in front of a screen.

Documents

If you regularly work with printed documents, an adjustable document holder is recommended. These are available through the purchasing department of the Facility Management Department. Ask your secretary about them.
