Granting consent for participation in sports research

Researchers from Radboud University may approach Radboud Sports Centre (RSC) to find participants for their sports research. When you register to become a member of RSC, you can indicate whether you consent to your information being used for academic research.

Which information will be shared?

Once you have given your consent, RSC may share the following information with the researcher:

  • Your first name;
  • Your surname;
  • (On the basis of your name, your gender may be indirectly identifiable);
  • Your email address.

Being approached to participate

On the basis of your contact details, the researcher may approach you to ask if you wish to participate in the academic research. The researcher will then provide you with more information about this research. The researcher(s) will only use your information to approach you about participating in academic research and will not use it for other purposes.

Voluntary participation

Under no circumstances will you be required to participate in the research and you will not need to provide a reason if you do not wish to participate. Any cooperation will always be on a voluntary basis.

Handling of personal information

RSC will only share your personal information after you have granted consent and a researcher has submitted a written request. When it comes to the careful handling of your information, the researcher will be subject to additional conditions.

In the interests of protecting your privacy, your personal information will be stored in a file and made available to the researcher for up to five days via SURFfilesender. Sharing of your information between RSC and the researcher will take place within Radboud University’s secure network.

Personal information retention period

The file in which your information has been recorded will not be kept for longer than necessary by RSC or the researcher. If the file has not been downloaded via SURFfilesender within five working days, this document will automatically be deleted and the researcher will need to submit a new request to RSC.

Duration of consent

Your consent will remain valid for the duration of your RSC membership, and will automatically expire when your membership is terminated.

Withdrawing your consent

You can always withdraw any previously granted consent by sending an email to RSC (balie-rsc-cf [at] ru.nl (balie-rsc-cf[at]ru[dot]nl)). In your email, please include your full name, the email address that is known to RSC, and your date of birth or student number or membership number. This information is required to verify your identity. Once your identity has been confirmed, your declaration of consent will be removed from our system. You will receive confirmation of this by email.

Please note: Withdrawing your consent will not invalidate any personal information that was processed while the consent was valid. This means that consent cannot be withdrawn retroactively.
