Each year, you will conduct an individual annual appraisal interview with your employees. The purpose of this type of interview is that the information provided will help your employees to perform to the best of their ability. Together with your employees, you will reflect on the past year and set goals for the forthcoming year. You will discuss:
- Which aspects of their work were successful and which aspects they were less successful during the past year.
- Whether they were able to achieve the agreed results.
- The progress of the collaboration between them andt heir colleagues.
- The progress of the collaboration between you as a supervisor and them.
- Their expectations and ambitions for the forthcoming year.
- Their development potential, which is tailored to match the goals of the department and the organisation.
Preparing for your annual appraisal interview
As a manager, you can give you instructions or a particular tool that will help your employees to prepare for their annual appraisal interview. There are several ways in which employees can prepare for their annual appraisal interview themselves. They can:
- Have a look at the Annual appraisal interview format.
- Have a look at the information on the e-learning modules or actually take one of the e-learning modules on Progress reviews and annual appraisal interviews in gROW.
Documenting the appraisal interview
The interview will need to be documented in the annual appraisal interview format and approved and signed by the supervisor and the staff member. You will then need to send the form to your Human Resources (HR) contact. They are responsible for making sure that the form is saved in the staff member’s digital file.
