The different steps of your visa application

In case you need a MVV and/or a residence permit, you need to go through several steps of the application process before your arrival in the Netherlands. Radboud University will assist you with the application.

Steps

  1. 1. Start of the application

    After your application as a student is complete (i.e. you have been admitted and you have delivered the required enrollment documents), you will receive an e-mail from the visa team of Student Admissions that you can start your visa application in OSIRIS Application. You can now start uploading the required documents in OSIRIS and pay the immigration fee and the insurance fee for the insurance company Aon. After you have uploaded all required documents in OSIRIS, the total visa process will take approximately four to eight weeks.

    Please note: The immigration fee and/or the insurance fee are included in some scholarships. We will inform you if this applies to you. In that case, you do not have to pay these fees yourself.

  2. 2. Check of your documents

    The visa team of Student Admissions will check your documents and will inform you by e-mail.

  3. 3. The IND

    Once all documents are approved by Student Admissions, they will submit your application to the IND (the Dutch Immigration and Naturalisation Service). Student Admissions will inform you about this via e-mail. The IND can take up to three weeks to assess your visa application. Once Student Admissions receives the decision from the IND, they will inform you by e-mail.

  4. 4. The MVV

    Once you have received the positive assessment, you can make an appointment with the Dutch representation/Embassy in your country to pick up your MVV-sticker if you need to have one. You can click here to find out if you need a MVV as part of your visa. Every Embassy or Consulate has different time frames to make a MVV. Please note that Embassies can have busy schedules and that the waiting time for an MVV-sticker may vary. The process could take up to four weeks. If there is no Royal Netherlands Embassy or Dutch Consulate in your country, contact the nearest Embassy that represents the Netherlands in your home country. Please check this website to find the nearest embassy or consulate and check which documents are required at the website of the Embassy you will visit, as this may differ per country.

    Please do not make any travel arrangements/book your ticket before you have the MVV in your passport.

  5. 5. Residence permit

    After your arrival in the Netherlands, you will receive more information from Student Admissions about where and when to pick up your residence card. Student Admissions will also inform you if you need to do biometrics before you can pick up your residence permit.
