The Basic Grant
The basic grant (Basisbeurs in Dutch) will be converted into a gift if you graduate within 10 years. If you fail to do so, you have to pay back the full amount, plus interest. How much you are entitled to depends on how you live. In 2023 the amount for students living at home is € 110,30 per month. Students living away from home: € 439,20 per month (€ 274,90 basic grant + € 164,30 temporary addition because of the purchasing power measure)
Are you living in The Netherlands with (one of) your parent(s)? Then you are living at home. If you do not live with your parents, you are living "away from home". DUO checks your situation following your registration at the municipality. We take the first day of the month in which you are entitled to student finance to determine how you live.
