Buddies wanted

Interested in supporting others? Keen to gain (more) coaching experience? Become a buddy for a fellow student! We are looking for Dutch speaking students who would like to support another student with additional support needs in managing and organising their studies and student life.

Who will you support?

As a buddy, you will support students who, due to additional support needs, find it difficult to manage and organise their studies and daily life effectively. This may include students with ADHD or autism, for example.

What kind of support will you provide?

Students with a disability or additional support needs who are just starting university often encounter various challenges. As a buddy, you may help with:

  • creating structure in the day
  • planning and organising study-related and other activities
  • understanding how the university works
  • collaborating with fellow students and communicating effectively with lecturers
  • building a new social network
  • managing their own household.

Students who have been studying for longer or who are returning to their studies after a break may also benefit from having a buddy.

Together, you and the student will shape the buddy relationship based on the student’s specific support needs. From time to time, you will have meetings with one of the advisers from Student Support. If a student is facing difficulties beyond the support you can provide, you will help them explore other possible solutions.

What’s in it for you?

  • A certificate to add to your CV
  • Meaningful work experience and an expanded network
  • Development of personal and professional skills
  • Three training sessions and ongoing guidance from the Student Support team

How to apply

The application process is as follows: if you are interested in becoming a buddy, please complete the questionnaire below. Afterwards, a student adviser will contact you for an introductory meeting to explore together whether the programme is right for you. Based on this conversation, you will be matched with one or two students for a minimum period of one academic year. During this year, you will receive regular support, guidance, and training.

The first buddy training session is scheduled for the first week of October 2026. Please note that this programme will be fully in Dutch.
