How can the confidential advisor help you?

'If you have any doubts, you can always contact the confidential advisors. I’d rather you contact me but not need my help after all, than need my help but not contact me.' Alessandra Aoki Dos Santos talks about how confidential advisors could help you.

“Confidential advisors are there to guide you if you experience an undesirable situation during your studies. This could be anything: from a conflict with a fellow student that you find difficult to handle, to an unpleasant situation with a lecturer that you aren't sure what to do about. If you have any doubts, you can always contact the confidential advisors. I’d rather you contact me but not need my help after all, than need my help but not contact me.

As a confidential advisor, I can help you explore your options to deal with unpleasant situations. In doing so, we look at how we can solve the situation in the way you’d like. The key feature here is that all our conversations remain confidential and you take the wheel: I will not act or solve problems on your behalf. Usually, I explain the various steps you could take and I can offer to join in with difficult conversations, for example, to support you. Sometimes, students just want to get something off their chest and no further action is required; if that is sufficient, then that works too. I can also refer you to other student guidance staff, such as your student advisor, if I get the feeling that they could be of more use to you.

If you have any questions or if you want to discuss an issue or submit a report, even if you are still unsure, then please feel free to contact us"
