The new internship allowances do not apply to students enrolled in the Faculty of Medical Sciences (FMS) of the Faculty of Science (FNWI).
Radboud university medical center follows the advice of the NFU (Netherlands Federation of University Medical Centres), which has compiled a list of academic programmes (in Dutch) for which no internship allowance applies. This prevents a situation where students from the same programme receive an internship allowance at one university medical centre but not at another.
Medical interns receive a separate (expenses) allowance of €120 per month during their medical internships.
Requirements for receiving an internship allowance
Are you studying at a faculty other than FMS or FNWI and would you like to know if your internship is eligible for compensation? Check if the internship meets the following requirements:
- The internship has a workplace learning character
- The internship is a structured and mandatory component of a vocational, applied sciences or university programme
- The programme is being followed at a recognised external educational institution
- The internship lasts at least 1 month (144 hours)
You can also follow the decision tree 'Internship allowance or not?' (in Dutch).
Effective date
The university medical centre collective labour agreement provision regarding internship allowances came into effect on 1 January 2024. Students who are entitled to an internship allowance under the new regulations will be notified. Initially, students who started an internship in September 2024 will be contacted. After that, students from the period January 2024 to September 2024 will be addressed.
No reclaims
If it appears that an internship allowance was paid in the period from 1 January 2024 - 1 September 2024 to which the student is not entitled under the current collective labour agreement provision, the internship allowance will not be reclaimed. If the internship continues after 1 September 2024, the payment agreement will also continue.
