Team Nijmegen fourth place at GNSK 2023

In 2023, #TeamNijmegen competed in the Groot Nederlands Studenten Kampioenschap (GNSK) in Wageningen where, with 2145 points and 12 medals, they came a whopping 4th out of all the student sports cities in the Netherlands. So many great achievements, but who gave it their all? The Nijmegen Student Sports Council (NSSR) summarises the results:

Six gold medals for five student sports associations

The real high-flyers this weekend were FC Kunde, KUNST, Profectus, Trajanum and Ha-Stu. Gymnastics association KUNST secured no less than two gold medals in both the women's and men's competitions. In Ha-Stu's handball teams, the men's team managed to add one there as well, and their women's team managed to grab bronze. Profectus' weightlifters sent only one man, but he was the strongest of the 120 class and thus came first! Trajanum's fierce women's basketball team was also able to match this and won another gold medal, after which the quick football team FC Kunde was happy to add another win with another gold medal.

Silver for squash and fencing

The Boosters' squash team came to a second place. And last but not least, the fencers of Don Quichote. With three healthy teams, they managed to grab no less than 4 medals (1x silver and 3x bronze), at both team and individual level for the women and men. In addition, they won the team match for bronze against Delft 45-44, which was super exciting! And although they did not take home any medals, Nijmegen is of course super proud of Stuban's badminton team and Hydrofiel's swimming team, who both managed to secure good 4th and 5th places.

Groot Nederlands Studenten Kampioenschap

With over 2000 athletes, coaches and volunteers, the Groot Nederlands Studenten Kampioenschap (GNSK) is one of the largest student sports events in the Netherlands. Student Sport Netherlands organised this year's 63rd edition on 9, 10 and 11 June in Wageningen. Student athletes from all student cities in the Netherlands competed in 14 different sports disciplines for the title of Dutch Student Champion. The GNSK will take place in 2024 on 7, 8, 9 June in Rotterdam.
