Dear students,
Fall has officially started, which means a new University Student Council has flourished at the beginning of the academic year. There are a lot of student participation bodies, and as we know, it can be challenging to keep track of them and what they do. One of them is us, the University Student Council (USC), the most central body in terms of co-determination at the university.
Who are we?
We are a group of fourteen students who have either an elected or an appointed seat. Hopefully you used your voice wiseley in last May, when the annual election for the USC took place. Besides the elected seats, which are taken by multiple parties, there are also six appointed seats for several student organisations. This means that we are a very diverse group of students, all with our own ideas and priorities. However as a group has only one goal and that is to represent all students at the Radboud University.
What do we do?
As USC we have a lot of contact with organisations, policymakers and (different bodies of) universities. We also listen to you, so if you have a question or idea, we really want to know! You might start something that we can make happen!
After informing ourselves a lot, we can be critical on the policy of the university. Together with the employees of the university, we provide constructive feedback and engage in discussions on how to implement changes. In this way, we can present our proposals to the Executive Board and work towards making them reality.
The past few weeks has already been moving weeks at our university, which means we have not been idle either. Topics such as housing for international students and the identity of the Radboud University have been points of interest in the first official cycle. Also, the recent events surrounding social safety on our campus have not passed us unnoticed. We see it as our duty as student representatives here to ensure a safe social climate on campus. You will certainly hear more from us on this topic and many others such as active students, sustainability, well-being, education, inclusion, campus plans and so on in the upcoming year.
If you have a great idea or just want to know how things work, please feel free to contact us on usr [at] ru.nl (usr[at]ru[dot]nl) or social media. We are here for the students and by doing so, we are here for you.
Kind regards,
The University Student Council 2023-2024
