USR Column February

"Time flies by when you have a busy period. So too for us USR members. It is strange to write that we are already halfway through the year, while we feel we have only just started. But that does give us extra motivation to make sure we can still achieve really great things this year.

On behalf of the Campus and Sustainability working group, I have the honour to write the first column of the second semester. In it, I will briefly talk about some of the projects we are busy with this year, and what we have already achieved this year.

One of the important changes we have already achieved this year is a student breakfast in De Refter. Breakfast is very important for everyone, but many students do not always have the time to have a proper breakfast in the morning. This is why we have been pushing for an opportunity for students to have breakfast on campus at a reasonable price. This has paid off: soon it will be possible to get a vegetarian or vegan breakfast on campus between 8am and 11am.

We managed to achieve another nice change this year besides breakfast. Student party AKKUraatd has indicated from the beginning of this academic year that it would like to introduce a student gardener on this campus. This is a nice side job for students and in addition, it aims to continue greening the campus within the buildings as well. If you are interested in becoming a student gardener, please contact akkuraatd [at] akku.nu as soon as possible.

As the USC, we also need your help! The university has a sustainability sounding board group, and for this they are looking for students. The sounding board group consists of a group of students who, together with the sustainability officer, discuss ideas and documents that the university is dealing with. We can also come up with our own ideas to discuss. The sounding board group meets about every 6 weeks in a 2-hour meeting. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact usr [at] ru.nl."
