Practical matters

With which texts?

You’re welcome to contact us about any type of written assignment, from first-year papers to Master’s theses.

How long?

Each session lasts 45 minutes. At the end of the session, you can immediately make a new appointment with your coach.

How many sessions?

There is a limit of five sessions for written assignments; the limit for Bachelor’s and Master’s theses is ten sessions.

Where?

The sessions will be held at Radboud Writing Lab. If you can’t come to campus, let your writing coach know that you would like to attend the session online.

With whom?

Your session will be conducted by a peer coach. This means that you will be talking to someone who is still studying, which means that the session will be both impartial and informal.

How much will it cost?

It won’t cost you anything. A discussion with a writing coach is free.

What types of questions can I ask?

There are many reasons why you might want to talk to a writing coach, such as:

  • You are having difficulty defining the boundaries for your research;
  • You want to know if your writing is logically structured;
  • You want to know if your line of reasoning is easy to follow;
  • You want to make your writing style more academic;
  • You need inspiration;
  • You want to incorporate your lecturer’s feedback into your work;
  • You are suffering from writer’s block;
  • You need advice about writing with dyslexia.

Services that are not offered by Radboud Writing Lab

Proofreading

We do not check texts. If you want to have your writing proofread or checked, there are other services that you can use, such as Scribbr or Scriptium.

Citation

The way in which you should cite literature is a whole separate discipline. If you have any questions about citation, please consult one of the University Library staff members.

Methodology

We do not offer assistance for methods and statistics. The best course of action is to check whether such a service is available within your study programme or at your faculty.
