TB
Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by the TB bacteria (Mycobacterium Tuberculosis). The most at risk of infection are people who come from a country where TB is common, people who have worked in a risk department (such as a lung department, work with the homeless or in an asylum seekers' center) and people who have worked in a microbiological laboratory.
Through screening questions, the AMD (Occupational Health Service of the Radboudumc) assesses whether you are eligible for TB screening. If you qualify, we will do a PPD skin test. This test, if indicated, is mandatory, from the point of view of patient protection.
MRSA
MRSA is the staphylococcus aureus bacteria, which mainly occurs in the throat / nose. You can contract MRSA if you have been in contact with someone who carries the MRSA bacteria. You are especially at high risk if you have worked in a hospital outside the Netherlands or if you have been a patient in a foreign hospital.
Through screening questions, the AMD assesses whether you are eligible for MRSA screening. If you qualify for this, a combination swab is taken from the throat and from the nose.
Hepatitis B
In accordance with the national guidelines of the health care inspection, the Radboudumc has determined that all employees, including trainees and interns, who carry out high-risk actions or who deal with material that is potentially hepatitis B infected, must demonstrate that they have been sufficiently vaccinated against Hepatitis B. If this is not the case, you must demonstrate that you are not a carrier of the virus and you must start vaccination against hepatitis B.
Vaccination consists of 3 injections: in month 0, month 1 and month 6. Four to eight weeks after the last vaccination, we check whether you have produced enough antibodies.
Other vaccinations
Measles: You should have had the MMR vaccination twice as a child. If this is not the case, you are urged to vaccinate against measles.
Procedure
If you need a vaccination for your internship at Radboudumc this is mostly organised by the host department. You’ll receive a form with screening questions (Questionnaire for trainees in direct patient contact or for those who come into contact with body fluids) from your traineeship department at Radboudumc.
Complete the form and make an appointment with the AMD via this contact form
Costs you need to pay can be reimbursed by the programme (contact the MMD coordinator).
For your second internship abroad you can make the appointment at the AMD yourselves, via the contact form of the AMD.
