What is SMAP?
The Statistical and Methodological Advice Point (SMAP) is a facility for (PhD) students of Educational Sciences, Educational Sciences and Psychology. If you have questions about the design of your research, its implementation or the processing and analysis of your research data, the SMAP can help you. The consultants only have an advisory role, so the final responsibility lies with you as a student and with your lecturer.
SMAP does not offer support for questions about content, such as the research question or writing style. We also do not review entire texts that are sent to us without a question just for checking.
Support
Frequently asked questions
Answers to frequently asked questions about mediation, moderation and regression analysis can be found in the manuals at the bottom of this page. Please note that these manuals have been compiled with care, but recommendations are not always unambiguous. Sometimes opinions differ and there may be difficult discussions with pros and cons that do not fit into a simple question-answer format. Therefore, you may come across solutions different from those we provide here. Note: in English only.
Send your question to SMAPPWOPsych [at] ru.nl (SMAPPWOPsych[at]ru[dot]nl) from your own Radboud email address. Tell us which course you are taking and which year you are in. You will receive an answer within a few working days. Difficult questions that are not within the expertise of each consultant may take longer.
Do you have a follow-up question? If you send it in general to, for example, 'Dear SMAP consultant', you will receive an answer from the next consultant who can answer your question. If you email a specific person, your question will, in principle, remain unanswered until that person is back on duty. This is often a week later.
Walk-In Consultancy: In-Person and Online
Try asking your question via email first. This often works better for three reasons:
- Writing clarifies your exact question for yourself.
- Your text can often be put to good use in your assignment or thesis.
- You can read our answer again at your leisure.
Need help managing via the manuals and/or email? Then drop in at our walk-in consultancy. There is no need to make an appointment. Currently, we only have online consultation hours.
- Monday: 9:30-10:30 Janneke van Ekert (Teams-link)
- Tuesday: 9:30-10:30 Leonie Oostwoud Wijdenes (Teams-link)
- Wednesday: 9:30-10:30 William van der Veld (Teams-link)
- Thursday: 9:30-10:30 Jaap van der Waerden (Teams-link)
- Friday: 9:30-10:30 Sanne van der Ven (Teams-link)
Please note: you can only attend the digital walk-in clinic with a Radboud account.
Do you have to wait a long time in the teams-link and don't get admitted? Sometimes this is the case. It is very busy then (especially in the March-June period) and we can only help one student at a time. Be patient, and don't give up too soon! We often stay longer in the consultation hour when it is busy than until the end time. Remember that you can also email your question.
Availability
SMAP is open (staffed) during all teaching weeks. During holidays and education-free days, we are closed. Emails sent during holidays will not be read. Please resend your email when the holidays are over.
Staff
SMAP is staffed by a team of consultants working in Educational Sciences, Psychology and the Research Technical Support Group.
