Hard cut

In Dutch higher education, we have the 'hard cut' (harde knip in Dutch). The hard cut means that you can only start a Master's programme once you have completed your Bachelor's or Pre-master's programme. Without a completed Bachelor's degree, you cannot enroll in the Master's programme. If you expect to encounter difficulties completing your prior education, you should contact your student advisor in a timely manner.

If you complete your final Bachelor's exams in July or August and start a Master's programme in September, you must re-enroll for the Bachelor's programme and also enroll for the Master's programme. If your Bachelor's exam date has not yet been processed by 1 September, your enrollment is still guaranteed. Once your Bachelor's exam date is processed, the Master's enrollment will be finalised retroactively, and the Bachelor's enrollment will be removed.

In some cases, there are exceptions to the hard cut. Refer to the Education and Examination Regulations (EER) of your programme for more information.
