Obtaining occupational registrations for Psychology

You can obtain ECTS-credits for various occupational registrations during the Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes for Psychology. These registrations are important qualifications that allow future employers and study programmes to verify your skills and knowledge.

Basic Psychodiagnostics Registration (BAPD)

The Dutch Institute for Psychologists offers the so-called Basic Psychodiagnostics Registration (BAPD). The BAPD NIP is a starting qualification in the field of psychodiagnostics. When someone is in possession of a BAPD NIP, this is their certificate that shows the psychologist has the necessary basic skills in the field of general psychodiagnostics. An employer can request this certificate (see BIZ) or you can use it as a diagnostics certificate in order to get into the GZ programme (see LOGO).

Have you followed any relevant courses during a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme outside of Radboud University?

Ask your previous university’s BAPD coordinator to hand over a statement detailing which BAPD courses you completed and for what amount of ECTS.
Contact the BAPD coordinator for Psychology at Radboud University immediately at the start of your GZP Master’s specialisation. The coordinator will determine if you have met all the BAPD requirements or if there are any courses you still need to follow in order to make up for any deficiencies.

LOGO certificate

Do you want to work as a BIG-registered healthcare psychologist in (G)GZ institutions, care homes, revalidation centres, institutions for disability care, child and youth care, and forensic institutes? Or would you like to work as a BIG-accredited GZ psychologist in an independent practice? Then you have to do the GZ programme at a postmaster educational institution. This requires a LOGO certificate. This is an official certificate that shows you meet the requirements to be accepted into the GZ programme.

How do you obtain a LOGO certificate?

It is possible to follow the two-year programme to become a BIG-registered healthcare psychologist (GZ psychologist) after the Master’s programme Psychology. In the Netherlands you can do the GZ programme in six places, one of which is the Radboud Centre Social Sciences.

Admission

The Association LOGO (National Cooperation Mental healthcare Educational Institutes) arranges the admission to the GZ programme. There are certain requirements for admission. One of LOGO’s admission requirements is a so-called ‘Certificate Prior Education’. You will receive this certificate via Osiris shortly after graduating the Master’s programme GZP. Consult vLOGO for more information regarding the admission requirements.

If you are certain that you are going to do a clinically-oriented Master’s at a different university and you want to work in the Dutch mental healthcare, then it is a good idea to request a partial certificate of prior education in order to obtain the LOGO and the BAPD. This is possible as soon as your final grade has been registered into Osiris. You can use this request form.

Graduates from the Master’s specialisation for Healthcare Psychology in Nijmegen are eligible for a Certificate Prior Education if they complete the following courses next to a certain amount of compulsory courses within the Bachelor Psychology and the Master Healthcare Psychology:

PSB3DH15E: D&H 3: Psychology and Health
PSB3DH23E: Clinical assessment and decision making (CADM)
PSB3DH66N: Klinisch professionele vaardigheden (KPV)

Besides the Certificate Prior Education you also have to provide proof regarding diagnostics. You can obtain this during the clinical internship via BAPD or the diagnostics certificate (vLOGO or Zorgprestatiemodel).

Additional requirements for the selection for the Master Healthcare Psychology (GZP)

Aside from the courses previously listed, Bachelor students in Nijmegen are required to have completed the following courses in order to be eligible for the GZP Master:

Alternatives to a LOGO certificate

If you are not starting the GZ programme but are starting as a basic psychologist or master’s psychologist in the GGZ, your employer will ask whether you have a BIZ certificate instead of a LOGO certificate, in line with the Zorgprestatiemodel (ZPM).

Students with a Bachelor or Master from another university

Students who completed their Bachelor’s or Master’s Psychology at a different university can ask this university to fill out a Certificate prior education. Once you start your programme at Radboud University, you will receive information from the LOGO contact person as to how to check whether you can meet the requirements.

If you completed your Bachelor’s in Nijmegen and you are certain that you want to do a clinically-oriented Master’s programme at another university and want to work in the Dutch mental healthcare system, then it is wise to request your partial certificate of prior education with us for the LOGO and the BAPD. This is possible once your final grade has been entered into Osiris by using this request form.

The certificate prior education is signed by the examination board. Do you disagree with a decision of an examination board or examiner? Then you can appeal this to the Examination Appeals Board (CBE).

Basic Sport Psychologist Registration (BASP)

The Association for Sport Psychology in the Netherlands (VSPN) operates with a Basic Sport Psychologist Registration (BASP). This registration allows graduates from Psychology (and graduates from Human Movement Sciences) to become full-fledged members of VSPN and it grants them access to the Post-academic Programme towards becoming a Sport Psychologist (in Groningen at the RUG, courtesy of ISPP).

Students of Psychology (or CNS or BS) can meet the BASP requirements by completing the following elements within their programme:

Master’s internship and thesis centring a question related to sport psychology: 24 EC (Master’s specialisation Healthcare Psychology) or 30 EC (Master’s specialisation Work, Organisation, and Health and Master’s specialisation Behaviour Change)
SOW-PSB3BC30E Human Motor Control: 4 EC
SOW-PSB3BE20E Sport Psychology: 4 EC
SOW-PSMWOH15 Work, Sport and Health (Master’s specialisation Work, Organisation and Health): 6 EC

You can choose these courses in the B3 year as an elective within the domain or in your free space. If you follow a Master’s specialisation other than Work, Organisation & Health, then you should follow the Master’s course Work, Sport & Health (PSMWOH15) as an extra course.

The Master’s internship/thesis sport psychology is possible within all Master’s specialisations. The question concerning sport psychology for the internship and thesis research must be approved by the coordinator of your Master’s specialisation and by one of the BASP contact persons at Radboud University.

If it is difficult to do both a Master’s internship and thesis in the field of sport psychology within your Master’s specialisation, then it is possible to do extra literature research (SOW-PSB3BE21E, 6 EC) in order to meet the BASP requirements. Applying for literature research in the field of sport psychology is possible through Pepijn van de Pol, who will conduct an interview.

European Reference Model Certificate (ERC)

Do you want to work abroad? It is possible to obtain the European Reference Model Certificate (ERC) for Work and Organisational Psychology by following a certain combination of courses. The certificate is acknowledged by the European Network of Organisational and Work Psychologists (ENOP) and the European Association of Work and Organisational Psychology (EAWOP).

You need at least 18 EC of technical knowledge, 6 EC for Work, Personnel, and Organisation, and at least 12 EC for skills.

Youth Quality Register Foundation (SKJ)

The Youth Quality Register Foundation is the register for professionals in the youth sector. You can register as a Psychologist via the website if you are working as a psychologist on an academic level and if you have completed a combination of courses focussed on youth during your academic training as a psychologist (a course focussed on developmental psychology, neuropsychology, and developmental psychopathology; and an internship at a facility for children and/or young people).

Management statement regarding Deployabilty in 'Zorgprestatiemodel' (BIZ)

The LOGO certificate shows that the admission requirements of the BIG programme for GZ psychologists have been met. These requirements are seen as the starting qualifications for psychologists who implement interventions in healthcare. This is in regard to the Zorgprestatiemodel, in which insurance companies only cover care provided by qualified professionals.

For basic psychologists that do not have a LOGO certificate, there is an alternative (since the certificate only needs to be requested if a GZ training will be followed). This alternative allows you to provide your employer with the declaration of entry requirements and the diagnostics certificate.
