As a buddy, you support someone with a refugee background in discovering everyday life at Radboud University. These students live in the Nijmegen region and follow a tailor-made programme in which they can grow, become familiar with the Dutch education system, and build a strong network, such as through Radboud Welcomes Newcomers and the Language Bridging Programme. They are still in the asylum procedure or are in the process of integration.
The buddy programme lasts at least one semester. An information session takes place beforehand so that you know what is expected of you.
This is you:
- Willing to meet with the student once every two weeks so that the student feels welcome on the Radboud University campus. For example, you might meet to have a cup of coffee together, take a walk around campus, or study together in the library.
- You are the student’s point of contact if they need help with anything.
This is what you get:
- An intercultural communication training, after which you will receive a certificate.
You and the student can participate in social activities that are organized, such as a game night or a potluck.
