Using laptops, phones and tablets

To follow your study programme, you need to have the appropriate devices. A laptop or tablet can generally be used for taking notes during lectures, but a lecturer may deviate from this rule. It is not allowed to use the laptop or tablet for other, non-academic purposes during lectures. You are not allowed to make audio or video recordings using any device (laptop, phone, iPad, etc.).

To ensure your laptop is suitable for studying, it must meet at least the following specifications:

  • Up-to-date Windows 10, Windows 11 or macOS
  • Webcam
  • Intel i5 processor (or comparable: AMD ryzen 5)
  • 8 GB internal storage
  • 256 GB SSD storage
  • Internet connection
  • 13 inch display
  • Sufficient battery life

Buying a laptop

You are free to choose where you buy your laptop. Students can download the F-Secure internet security package for free via SURFspot.

If you don't have the financial means to meet the laptop requirements of your faculty, please contact your Student Information Point.

Borrow a laptop

The Faculty of Science has a laptop share programme, which allows students to borrow a laptop on a day-to-day basis.

At the Faculty of Social Sciences students can request a loan laptop if their laptop is broken or if, due to exceptional circumstances, they are unable to use their own laptop. Fill in the form below to request a loan laptop.
