Are you an enthusiastic and highly motivated scientist studying human biology with a translational focus? Then the RIMLS-Science Institute of the Faculty of Science at Radboud University (Nijmegen, Netherlands), which is looking for an associate/full professor in Human Biology, may be the perfect place for you. 

We are looking for a tenured faculty member in Human Biology at the associate or full professor level. As a new faculty member, you will enrich the current research, education and management activities of the RIMLS-Science Institute. We will invite you based on scientific excellence, potential impact, and complementarity to existing research lines. We broadly define the required area of expertise as follows:

RIMLS-Science sees opportunities for complementary molecular, cell biological and computational research focusing on human pathophysiology. These opportunities arise, for example, from recent technological developments in single cell DNA and RNA sequencing, which have revolutionised the 'omics' field by, inter alia, facilitating the identification of rare cell types and by disentangling cellular heterogeneity and cell-cell communication in health and disease. Predictions made from computational modelling can be interrogated using unbiased functional genomics screens and orthogonal sequencing and proteomics approaches. These technologies can either be applied to primary (patient-derived) cells or in advanced in vitro culture systems such as organoids to mechanistically address fundamental questions in human biology and pathophysiology. These approaches also hold great promise for translation to medical applications in disease modelling or cancer research. Other potential areas of interest include single molecule imaging, spatial transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics, regenerative medicine and tissue engineering.

It is of great importance that you will establish links with other Science faculty and/or Radboud UMC departments. Scientific excellence should ensure ample external funding opportunities. You will be expected to contribute to the teaching activities of the institute up to a maximum of 40%, including the Human Biology Medical Biology specialisation and a Human Biology course in the Bachelor's degree programme in Biology.

Profile

  • You are an enthusiastic scientist with a strongly developed research programme as evidenced by high-quality publications, invitations to (international) scientific conferences and competitive research grants. 
  • You are a team player who has shown academic leadership skills, for instance in international research collaborations and/or research consortia.
  • You have a broad scientific interest and you look forward to collaborating in a multidisciplinary research environment.
  • You have a solid track record of teaching experience and qualifications (UTQ) and ample experience with lecturing, practical courses, workgroups and assignments.
  • You are keen to contribute to attractive, state-of-the art, English taught Bachelor's and Master's programmes.
  • You have proven management skills and are willing to take up management tasks within the research institute.

The Radboud Institute for Molecular Life Sciences (RIMLS) is a leading interfaculty research institute of the Faculty of Science (FNWI) and Faculty of Medicine (Radboud UMC) at Radboud University. Research areas of the RIMLS-Science Institute (embedded within RIMLS but affiliated to the Faculty of Science) include epigenetics, stem cell and developmental biology, cancer biology and inflammation, and bioinformatics. The Institute's mission is to integrate fundamental questions and technologies in the life sciences with medical applications, with the ultimate goal of making a significant impact on healthcare.


Research at RIMLS-Science
The central research theme of RIMLS-Science is regulation of gene expression during development and in health and disease. Important technologies that are used include (single cell) multi-omics analyses, proteomics, super resolution microscopy, single molecule biophysics and computational biology. RIMLS-FNWI operates its own high-end facilities. The RIMLS-Science Institute's fundamental and applied research in medical biology and molecular life sciences has clear connections to biochemical research performed at the Institute for Molecules and Materials (Faculty of Science) as well as to more clinically oriented research programmes at several departments within the Radboud UMC.

Educational activities of RIMLS-Science
RIMLS-Science is significantly involved in teaching activities at Radboud University, including courses in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Developmental Biology within the Bachelor's degree programme in Biology. Furthermore, RIMLS-Science coordinates the Medical Biology Master's track specialisation in Medical Epigenomics. The Institute also offers internships to Bachelor's and Master's students.

We offer

  • It concerns an employment for 0.8 - 1.0 FTE.
  • The gross monthly salary amounts to a minimum of €6,099 and a maximum of €8,881 based on a 38-hour working week as a Full Professor (salary scale H2).  An appointment as an Associate Professor with the potential to further develop as a Full Professor is also possible. The gross monthly salary as an Associate Professor amounts to a minimum of €5,506 and a maximum of €7,362 based on a 38-hour working week, depending on your scientific track record and experience (salary scale 13 or 14).
  • You will receive 8% holiday allowance and 8.3% end-of-year bonus.
  • It concerns a permanent employment.
