The relation between dance, identity and culture

Date of news: 27 May 2021

Yara van Hamburg studied Liberal Arts and Sciences with a main trajectory in Cultural Anthropology and is a co-author of two research theses on social dance communities and social dancing.

Within her international master Contemporary Theatre, Dance and Dramaturgy, she focused on combining dance theory with ethnographic insights from Anthropology and lessons from the field of Education and Pedagogy, to argue for the pedagogical power of dance and the potential of dance as a medium to stimulate intercultural sensitivity development. Currently, she is setting up some projects to continue working on explaining these insights to a broader network.

While setting up these projects, she works at a publishing house developing an educational program for youngsters, through which they get to know themselves better as well as their skillset and their communities, while becoming aware of their social impact.
