You can choose to buy your groceries from supermarkets or from local stores such as greengrocers, bakeries, butchers etc. You will find these - mostly privately owned - shops in most neighbourhoods, clustered together.
Supermarkets
In the Netherlands there is a large variety of supermarket chains. Most supermarkets open from 8:00 - 20:00 on Monday - Saturday and some open on Sundays from 12:00 - 17:00. Please check your local supermarket for more detailed information.
- General supermarket chains in the Nijmegen area are Albert Heijn, COOP, Jan Linders, Jumbo and Spar.
- Budget supermarkets are Aldi and Lidl.
- There is a Spar University shop on the Radboud University campus. Unfortunately, it is temporarily closed due to corona.
