Curriculum vitae
Rob Lenders (1961) is assistant professor at the Department of Environmental Science of the Radboud University Nijmegen, The Netherlands. He graduated as an ecologist in 1988. Since his graduation he co-developed the educational program in Environmental Science at Radboud University. He wrote his PhD-thesis on Environmental Rehabilitation of the Dutch River Landscape and acquired his PhD in 2003. His present research focuses on constructing palaeoreferences for environmental rehabilitation with special attention for the vertebrate fauna and the Dutch river district. As a co-founder and former chair and member of the board of the Dutch Foundation on Reptile, Amphibian and Fish Research (RAVON), he has a special interest in the herpeto- and ichthyofauna of Europe. Although he is trained as an ecologist he also makes use of several other techniques and data, such as (zoo)archaeological records and written historical sources in order to fully reconstruct historical-ecological reality.

Courses
- Water en Natuurbeheer (Water and nature management);
- Ecological and Environmental concepts;
- Ecology and management of large rivers

Research interests
My prime focus is on the historical and societal dimensions of nature and landscape with the aim to develop and set appropriate frameworks and models for management. As a trained animal ecologist I have special interest in reptiles, amphibians and fish, but also in other vertebrate fauna species. Within the BIOCLIO-project I focus on opening up historical data in order to set human-nature relationships in an appropriate temporal context. The BIOSAFE-project aims at facilitating nature and landscape managers and developers with suitable tools to assess impacts of various measures on flora and fauna species with special focus on species of river landscapes.
