Registration and BSN
As a new resident of the Netherlands you are required to register with your local municipality. As soon as you register, you will obtain a Citizen Service Number (BSN).
When you start your life in the Netherlands, you will need a European IBAN bank account for your salary payments, preferably from a Dutch bank. In the Netherlands, credit cards are rarely used and you will need a debit card.
DigiD: your digital identity
DigiD allows you to identify yourself when using website of the national government, educational institutes, your municipality, healthcare institutions, the tax authority or your pension fund.
Mobile phoning and SIM cards
In order to stay connected, you may need a Dutch SIM card. Choose the right mobile provider and package to cater for your personal situation.
