Admission requirements
In order to be admitted as an exchange student at the Faculty of Arts, you need to meet some requirements.
Field of study
We expect that students who are nominated at the Faculty of Arts will have a main focus on our course offer. You are allowed to take all courses at the Faculty of Arts as long as you meet the prerequisites for the course. You will be able to choose a maximum of two courses from other faculties as well.
Transcript of Records / Diploma
If you are a Bachelor's student:
- We ask you to submit an official Transcript of Records, stamped and signed by your home university. Some courses might require some experience in a specific subject. We will check on your Transcript of Records if you meet the prerequisites of a course.
If you are a Master's student:
- We ask you to submit your Bachelor's degree and a Transcript of Records. Master courses require a completed Bachelor in the relevant field of study.
Language proficiency
In our experience, an adequate level of English is an absolute condition to a successful stay abroad. Therefore, we only accept certified proofs of English language competency. A statement from a language centre or university department won't be accepted. Obviously, the abovementioned does not apply to native speakers of English or students who only take courses in Dutch. For courses offered at the Faculty of Arts, we therefore ask you to guarantee that the standard of your spoken and written English is sufficient, by including one of the following documents. For courses offered at the Department of English and American Studies of the Faculty of Arts, a minimum of C1 is required.

Please note that most language certificates have a validity of 2 years. In case you cannot supply a certified proof, we invite you to register for an online language testing (Oxford Online Placement Test). You will receive more information about this test after the receipt of your nomination. We offer several rounds of tests per semester to prospective exchange students.
Other languages
At the Faculty of Arts, we not only offer courses in English, but also in Dutch, French, Spanish and German. For courses in Dutch, a minimum level of C1 is necessary to keep up with our Dutch students. For courses in French, Spanish and German at least a B1 level in these languages is requested. In the course guide you can find the specific level indicated per course.
