Comenius Scholarship for Edwin van Meerkerk
Edwin van Meerkerk has been awarded a prestigious Comenius Scholarship for his project 'You Have a Part to Play: Higher Education for Sustainability'. With the Comenius Leadership fellowship Van Meerkerk, associate professor at the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures, can put his vision of educational innovation into practice.
Dr. Edwin van Meerkerk (Radboud Institute for Culture and History, RICH) researches and teaches about art and culture education, cultural policy and sustainability in higher education. Van Meerkerk received the Comenius Leadership fellowship for the project 'You Have a Part to Play: Higher Education for Sustainability'. It is the first time someone from Radboud University has received this prestigious fellowship.
Van Meerkerk: ''You are needed' is the motto of Radboud University. This motto makes us aware that Higher Education is more than just imparting knowledge and skills; but also personal development. In this project, we are working on a new didactic approach to sustainability education in which students learn to apply their knowledge and skills to the world of tomorrow. Together with ArtEZ School of the Arts, we are building educational methods that help students become aware of the complex issues of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.'
On 7th July, Van Meerkerk and the two Radboud winners of the Comenius Teaching Fellow will be put in the spotlight in the TLC Education Café.
