Developing TVET, HE and training on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in the health and population sector in Bangladesh

Short description:

Goal of the project is to develop (technical) vocational educational training (TVET), higher education (HE) and training on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in the health and population sector in Bangladesh by strengthening their capacities in gender and in the field of SRHR regarding curriculum development, education, management, research, outreach, advocacy, and learning from each other. The consortium aims to achieve this through enhanced cooperation between the institutes and adding functionalities to the existing Centre of Excellence for Gender Sexuality and HIV/AIDS of JPGSPH. The centre will, during the project, evolve into the Centre of Excellence in Gender and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, a sustainable focal point where new SRHR curricula are developed and updated, capacities of teaching staff (tutor trainers) are improved, and where research, documentation of best practices, advocacy, marketing and fundraising take place. This is captured in the project’s specific objective (SO) and three proposed results:


  • Result 1: Knowledge creation and knowledge management, sustainable collaboration and advocacy - including new applied research, three PhD studies, creation of a virtual SRHR library, a marketing strategy for the new SRHR curricula, and training in and support to advocacy.
  • Result 2: Development of SRHR curricula and related skills – to be undertaken by two curriculum development teams, one for VET and one for HE, with effective use of the new curricula to be promoted by six ‘tutor trainers’, who will teach others how to use the curricula when training others.
  • Result 3: Capacity development of the three partners – involving reinforcing organisational and institutional development towards increased quality standards.


The consortium consists of four organisations: MDF Training and Consultancy B.V. (MDF), RutgersWPF, the Institute for Gender Studies (IGS) of Radboud University, and CREA, based in India.
The requesting organisation is the James P Grant School of Public Health (JPGSPH) of BRAC University, in partnership with Reproductive Health Services Training and Education Programme (RHSTEP) and the National Institute of Population Research and Training (NIPORT)
