Building capacity to address issues of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), gender and emotional wellbeing in technical, vocational, higher and general education
2014-2018
Short description:
The Underprivileged Children's Educational Programs (UCEP) has requested assistance from NUFFIC in developing their capacity to promote Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) by improving their education on sexuality for adolescents, and by initiating a SRHR frontline counselling trade. Simultaneously, the Institute of Educational Development (IED), BRAC University (IED) has requested support to develop a curriculum on counselling involving short flagship courses leading to a diploma, eventually evolving into a one year master track. The two organisations are motivated to jointly advocate for new counselling trades in the public and private sector, integrating gender and sexual and reproductive health and rights topics. They aim to create more opportunities on the labour market in Bangladesh for counsellors at different levels, frontline counsellor in schools, communities, telephone helplines and more advanced counsellors who will find work as therapeutic counsellors in the private or public sector. As a result of this request the “Building capacity to address issues of Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), gender and emotional wellbeing in technical, vocational, higher and general education for the youth, adolescents and general public in Bangladesh” was formulated.
The specific objective of the project is to develop capacity within UCEP and IED in the areas of SRHR, gender and emotional wellbeing, to promote awareness, advocate, and encourage counselling related services to improve employability in the sector. Under this objective we propose the following results:
Results:
- Result 1: UCEP and IED develop, actualise and implement contextualised gender sensitive curricula which promote sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and emotional well-being, satisfying the needs of Bangladesh society.
- Result 2: The capacity of UCEP and IED staff is further developed, including SRHR related knowledge and educational skills.
- Result 3: UCEP and IED have generated and disseminated knowledge in SRHR and wellbeing and raised awareness among governmental and private sector, regarding the importance of SRHR, gender and the emotional wellbeing of adolescents and women for enhanced employability within the field of counselling in the private sector and government institutes.
