Radboud Education Prize for Steffen Wiedmann
Steffen Wiedmann, scientist in the Semiconductors & Nanostructures group of the HFML, received the 2016 Education Prize for best junior lecturer at Radboud University. The annual prize was awarded to him during the official opening of the academic year on August 29, 2016.
Since two years, Steffen Wiedmann is a lecturer in the Physics and Astronomy department. He teaches Introduction to Solid State Physics (Bachelor) and Quantum Transport, a Master course he developed himself. Among students, Wiedmann is renowned for his enthusiasm and humour. He knows how to explain the subject in a very accessible way, he manages to hold the attention of students and enables them to gain insight into the usually difficult and tough course material. In addition, he finds the feedback of students and fellow teachers of great importance. In his own words: teaching requires openness to change.
Steffen Wiedmann is also a popular internship- and thesis supervisor because of his openness and enthusiasm. He always tries to help students reach the highest level. He has an eye for each individual's personal talents and interests and aligns his guidance to this, in order to get the best out of his students.
