What is Identity Management?
Identity Management is the collective name for processes and all underlying techniques for making, managing, and using electronic identity data.

What is authentication?
Authentication refers to the process where people need to prove their identity. This means that they can show that they are indeed who they say they are. The RU password together with your login code (employee number) is your electronic identity or RU account.

What is authorisation?
Authorisation is the process of granting people or systems access to the functionality of ICT services or parts of this functionality. For instance, the RU account gives all RadboudUniversity staff with a U number access to SURFspot.

How about my privacy and Identity Management?
The data that are used for authentication and authorisation will only be used for identification purposes and for access to ICT services of RadboudUniversity. These data will not be passed on to third parties.

Can I use the RU account for all RadboudUniversity applications?
No, you cannot use the RU account for all applications within Radboud University. This depends on your role within the organization whether you are allowed access to the application in question. Not all applications are already connected.
