Seminar: "An editor's insight into publishing in Nature journals" (Lecture)
- Friday 9 February 2018Add to my calendar
- from 11:00
Dr. Giulia Pacchioni (Editor at Nature Reviews Physics)
The talk will start with an introduction to Nature journals, in particular Nature Reviews Physics, which will launch in 2019 and is now open for submissions. I will then delve into the editorial processes and the journey an article undergoes between submission and publication, discussing what editors look for and what makes a Nature paper. I will give some tips on how to write a clear, well-structured article and on how to prepare it at best for submission. I will conclude with a few remarks about editorial careers as a possible path for PhDs and postdocs looking for an exciting science-related job.
Giulia Pacchioni received her Master’s degree in physics from the University of Milan, Italy, in 2011, with an experimental thesis on the optimization of OLED devices. She then got her PhD from the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland, where she investigated nanostructures on surfaces using scanning tunnelling microscopy in the group of Professor Harald Brune. She joined Springer Nature in October 2015 for the launch of Nature Reviews Materials, where she worked as Senior Editor until November 2017. She is currently Locum Chief Editor at Nature Reviews Physics.
