Theme 3 Seminar by Prof. Fulvio Parmigiani: 'Angle Resolved Photoelectron Spectroscopy (ARPES): Recent Progress and Future Direction in Time and Spin Resolved ARPES' (Lecture)

The lecture is thought for master students in condensed matter. The aim is to provide a clear and simple background for understanding the basic physics behind the photoelectric process in solids and how, by measuring the momentum, kinetic energy and spin of the photoelectrons, is possible to detect the band dispersion and Fermi surface (occasionally spin resolved) in some order solids and layered materials. By adapting the ARPES to measure non-equilibrium states  ( 2-photons ARPES and time resolved ARPES)  it will be shown how band dispersion experiments can be extended to measure transiently occupied states above the Fermi energy.
