IvOC Platform Day "Trauma & Healing" Friday 28 June 2024

On Friday 28 June 2024, IvOC hosts it's second annual Platform Day, sponsored by the Netherlands School for Advanced Studies in Theology and Religion (NOSTER). This year, a talented panel of 3 speakers presents on the theme "Trauma & Healing", a most relevant topic given the geopolitical landscape we currently find ourselves in. How does the (orthodox) Christian faith help those dealing with various traumas as a result of migration, war, or military operations? What are the latest developments in terms of treatment, and what is the role of a spiritual advisor?

Orthodox priest and educator Fr. Michael Bakker from the St Irenaeus Orthodox Theologisch Instituut will give the Orthodox christian perspective on trauma in the church community and give examples from his interactions with members of his church. His presentation will be in Dutch.

Additionally, Ms. Sanneke Brouwers, a chaplin in the Ministry of Defence and PhD candidate at Tilburg University, provides an in-depth look at moral distress among military personnel and veterans. Her presentation is also in Dutch.

We're pleased to have IvOC's own theologian dr. Petre Maican as the third speaker, in an English language presentation on disabilities as a result of war and the Orthodox theology on disabilities.

At the end of the presentations there will be a panel discussion and an opportunity for the audience to engage and pose questions to the panel. It is a unique opportunity to raise important points and gain personal insights with the experts.

PhD students and those working as spiritual advisors are especially welcome to attend this symposium.  To attend, kindly register via e-mail: info@oosterschristendom.nl.

We look forward to seeing you on Friday 28 June in Nijmegen,  13.00-16.30hrs in Huize Heyendael, Geert Grooteplein Noord 9, 6525 EZ Nijmegen.
