Course on Russian Religious Philosophy

Given the current geo-political situation, have you wondered which philosophers influenced Putin's perspective on Russia? Additionally, what alternatives does Russian thought offer to his "Russian World" ideology? Come explore the religious-philosophical sources which contribute to this discussion and the role of religion in present-day Russia, by joining the course Russian Religious Philosophy in the Silver Age.

Prof. dr. Alfons Brüning and dr. Josephien van Kessel present in this course the most influential Russian religious philosophers in the Silver Age, including Vladimir Solov'ëv, Sergei Boelgakov, Nikolai Berdiaev, Pavel Florenskii, Ivan Il'in, Georgii Florovskii en Vladimir Losskii. Also the works of renowned dissidents and Nobel Prize winners  Alexander Solzhenytsyn and Andrei Sacharov will be explored.

This course is relevant for students of philosophy and theology, and those who want a different perspective on how religious philosophy influenced the current ideology and their role in shifting the focus of the Orthodox church and religion back to society.

Dates:
Every Tuesday, starting 30 January 2024. The course ends in May.

Location:
Radboud University Nijmegen, in the Erasmusgebouw.
International participants are welcome to attend the course online!

Costs:
Radboud University students can register for the course and they earn 5 ECTS upon completion. Non-Radboud University participants pay a fee of €265 and Vrienden van IvOC enjoy a discount of 25% and pay only €198.75.
