Detention of asylum seekers

This research is commissioned by the Dutch Council for Refugees and Radboud University and investigates detention of asylum seekers in the Netherlands. Three questions lead this inquiry:

1. which factors influence the use of detention by street-level bureaucrats?
2. Is the use of detention in accordance with national and international norms?
3. What is the level of legal protection offered in practice?

The research is both legal and socio-legal in nature. We did file analysis and had interviews with lawyers, judges, government officials and members of interest groups.
