Effective supervisor-PhD interaction

Supervision is a collaborative process. Clear and frequent communication, expectation management and giving and receiving feedback are crucial elements. The right attitude and behaviour of both supervisors and PhD candidates play an important role here.

The Graduate School of the Faculty of Law has adopted Leiden University's 'Golden Rules for PhD Supervision'. As these guidelines relate to expectations, attitude and behaviour of both supervisor and PhD candidate, we speak of Effective Supervisor-PhD interaction: a two-way process. These are balanced guidelines for supervisors and PhD candidates. The guidelines can be found here.
