Conditions for admission can be found in the text of the vacancy.

Contract PhD’s

If you wish to do a PhD as a contract PhD you have to meet the following conditions:

  • A master’s degree or equivalent, to be checked by our International Office.
  • Except for native speakers, proficiency in English demonstrated through one of the following test scores:
    • A TOEFL score with a minimum score of 90 overall (internet based, with a minimum of 23 for writing), 232 (computer based) or 575 (paper based). The institutional TOEFL code for Radboud University is 3387.
    • An IELTS score with a minimum of 6.5 overall (with a minimum score of 6.0 for the components listening, reading and speaking and a minimum of 6.5 for writing).
    • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) with a grade C or a Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) with a grade C.
  • A research outline of up to 1200 words (three pages) containing:
    • A brief overview of the research in your area of study;
    • A research problem and objective;
    • The research approach;
    • A list of main sources.
      The research outline has to be approved by our Faculty Board.
  • The willingness of one of our professors to act as your supervisor.
  • If you use your own funding: an official document detailing obtained funding.

External PhD

Your ideas about a research topic, your CV and the grades from your education, are the basis for a discussion with one of our professors about supervision and the elaboration of your idea in a research plan. You are an external PhD candidate if one of our professors has agreed to be your supervisor, based on the elaborated research plan.
