André Janssen and Danny Busch organize Japanese-Dutch webinar
On Wednesday, August 26, Professor of European private law André Janssen and Professor of Financial Law Danny Busch organized a webinar entitled "The Protection of the Weaker Party in Private Law - European, Dutch, and Japanese Perspectives".
The webinar was organized together with Ewoud Hondius (emeritus professor of Civil law at the University of Utrecht), Harriet Schelhaas (professor of Civil law at Erasmus University Rotterdam) and dr. Willem Visser 't Hooft (Leiden University).
The following topics were discussed under the chairmanship of Prof. André Janssen. Prof. Hondius kicked off with a lecture entitled "Japan and the Netherlands: two worlds apart". Subsequently, the private law duty of care of banks was discussed from a Japanese, Dutch and European perspective (Prof. Hiro Sono, Hokkaido University, and Prof. Danny Busch), followed by a discussion of the legal position of the employee from a Japanese, Dutch and European perspective (Prof. Takashi Araki, University of Tokyo), and Prof. Guus Heerma van Voss, Leiden University).
Initially a two-day physical conference was planned in Nijmegen, but unfortunately this could not take place due to corona. The physical conference has been postponed to August 2021. In the meantime, the participants in this international project are continuing to work on their comparative contributions. In due course the contributions will be published by Kluwer as a book.
