Seraina Grünewald speaks to ECB governors on climate change

On 23 February 2021, professor of European and Comparative Financial Law Seraina Grünewald was invited to speak to the members of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB). They discussed the ECB’s role with a view to environmental protection. It was a roundtable discussion of a few selected legal experts in the context of the ECB’s ongoing Strategic Review.
Grünewald argued that environmental protection is part of the ECB’s mandate and that considerations of environmental sustainability should be included in the ECB’s monetary decisions going forward.
