The Nijmegen Principles 2021 and other principles and guidelines on international adjudication

The experts involved in the development of the Nijmegen Principles 2021 stress the obligation of States to ensure the rights in human rights treaties in good faith and acknowledge the importance of the ILA Johannesburg Guidelines on Human Rights Obligations of States (pdf, 100 kB) in setting this out. They also acknowledge the 2017 Guiding Principles on Provisional Measures (pdf, 30 kB) of the International Law Institute (ILI), but they consider that these require specification in light of the human rights treaties and the obligations of States flowing from the adjudication instruments ratified by them.
