Robbert Rademakers Wins the University Teaching Prize for Talent

Junior lecturer Economic theory and Policy Robbert Rademakers is the winner of the University Teaching Prize for Talent 2020. The jury report is glowing: “Because of his distinctive personal attention and the contact he maintains with students, his actions as a lecturer during the coronavirus pandemic, and his didactic capacities, Robbert Rademakers deserves the Teaching Prize for Talent.” The jury specifically praised his teaching style: “Robbert Rademakers’ education is characterised by his interactive approach with attention to every student. He delivers his lectures with passion and goes the extra mile for his students.”

Robbert was surprised by the timing of the prize. “The prize is a great honour and I did not see it coming at all, in the middle of this coronavirus pandemic. The prize is a great compliment for our entire programme," says Robbert. “As a student, I had the opportunity to follow the example of the lecturers I can now call my colleagues. They showed me what it means to be a good lecturer: a good storyteller who makes students think critically. My goal is that students, when they get on their bikes to go home, still think about the message of the lecture. Luckily there is plenty of time for that, now that you are no longer allowed to use your mobile phone while cycling.”

The University Teaching Prizes are usually presented at the opening of the academic year in September. This year, the award ceremony will take place during Onderwijsweek (education week) in March.
