About our education
As a student-oriented academic school of management, NSM is able to nurture a close relationship with its students, and we pride ourselves on our student-focus. We share joint responsibility for the personal growth and development of our students. It is on the basis of this vision that we also regard our students not as mere ‘consumers of education’, but as individuals who play an active role in forming their own future.
The NSM vision for our educational programmes at Bachelor's and Master's level is reflected in our commitment to training academic professionals, by helping them develop a thorough methodological and theoretical basis, and acquire the skills needed for an action-focussed attitude. This is why we teach our students the ability to get to the bottom of complex societal problems right from the first year, when they learn how to apply theoretical principles in research projects.
Intensification of teaching
As of September 2012, all of the semesters should include at least 15 hours of face-to-face instruction each week. The Faculty Board agreed together with the Executive Board last November 2011 that the number of hours should be increased.
With two blocks and a subject taught parallel each block during 8 weeks, this means that a 6 ECTS credit course will consist of 48 hours of face-to-face instruction (now set at 32 hrs.), for example, 3 lectures weekly consisting of 2 hours each.
The objective of this intensification of teaching is to ensure that more students graduate and that more students will have obtained their diplomas after 4 years, without having to lower the educational standards. For students, this means you will have to be on campus more than was the case before.
