English Proficiency

To follow courses at NSM you are required to be proficient in English!

If you are not an English native speaker, you have to prove your level of proficiency, by submitting one of the following documents together with your application forms:

B2 C1

TOEFL test certificate with a score of at least 550 (paper based) or 80 points (internet based) - not older than two years)

*Due to the COVID-19 situation, Radboud University currently accepts the TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition. You can check if this online English proficiency test is accessible for you on the ETS website. The same scores as indicated above apply.

TOEFL test certificate (internet-based) with a score of at least 90 points (sub scores: min. 22).
Not older than two years.

IELTS test certificate with a score of at least 6.0 - not older than two years IELTS test certificate with a score of at least 6.5 (sub scores: min. 6.0, writing sub score: min. 6.5).

Cambridge First Certificate in English (minimum level B2):
First (FCE) - Grade C (scale 169 - 172); or
C1 Advanced / CAE (overall score 169 or higher); or C2 Proficiency / CPE.
Not older than five years

Cambridge First Certificate in English (minimum level C1):
B2 First (FCE) - Grade A; or
C1 Advanced (CAE) - Grade C or higher; or C2 Proficiency / CPE.
Not older than five years

TOEIC:
‘Speaking and Writing': 290 points ‘Listening and Reading': 670 points
Not older than two years

TOEIC:
‘Speaking and Writing': 310 points.
‘Listening and Reading': 720 points
Not older than two years

ONLY FOR EU/EEA Students: Home University English language courses certificate
Not older than two years
ONLY FOR EU/EEA Students: Home University English language courses certificate

Additional Language requirements for the Faculty of Arts

The Faculty of Arts only accepts certified proofs of English. Their different rules apply and there are additional language requirements for certain programmes. Please check their website for more detailed information.
