The project SEANERGETIC, or 'Ship system expanded energy storage devices lifetime via AI-empowered control', focuses on new battery and fuel cell technologies and their efficient integration in ships. In addition, the project looks at improvements in the energy density, lifespan, costs, and safety aspects of current technology.

Radboud University has received Horizon Europe funding for new research in improving climate policy models. Within a European consortium of researchers, assistant professor Sibel Eker and professor Etienne Rouwette will address systemic, structural deficiencies in current integrated assessment models (IAM’s) of climate, economy, and environment. Sibel will lead the work package on the integration of human behavior and social systems into the modeling.

The world faces major challenges, including climate change, environmental degradation, poverty, and inequality. Progress in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is lagging behind and 2030 targets are unlikely to be met. New findings in sustainability research indicate the importance of adopting longer-term timeframes and pathways to ensure that the necessary pre-conditions are in place for sustainability beyond the current 2030 Agenda.

The Radboud-Glasgow Collaboration Fund awarded two projects of researchers of Nijmegen School of Management. With funding up to £20.000, the Radboud-Glasgow Collaboration Fund supports research, teaching or short staff mobility projects. The two research projects awarded this year, share the theme of sustainability and are internationally engaged, because of their strategic partnership with the University of Glasgow. The Faculty Board congratulates Adam J. Calo, Andrea Herrmann and Hans Lekkerkerk with their awarded funds.

The transition to a sustainable society involves considerable challenges for the Dutch chemical industry. Large price reductions and safety considerations currently determine the industrial landscape. However, a roadmap to lead the industry through the sustainability transition, maintaining economic viability and, in any case, the existing safety level, does not exist. Why? There is no suitable technology yet.That is why Prof. Dr. Ira Helsloot is examining and developing a Safe-By-Design approach for chemical products and processes in collaboration with colleagues from the University of Amsterdam, Maastricht University, and TU Delft. Ira Helsloot has received an NWA Grant for this.
