Studying Without Borders: Improving Your International Study Experience

Would you like to get to know other Dutch students better? Then you are in the right place!

Currently, 1 in 10 of the students at our faculty is from outside the Netherlands; this number is only increasing. The Nijmegen School of Management believes that it is important that you, as an international student, have a good experience studying in Nijmegen. After all, you are in a completely new country where things are not always as you expect. To navigate this new country, we provide the following workshops:

Is something missing or do you have questions? Feel free to get in touch with Huub Winters (huub.winters2@ru.nl), International Economics & Business study advisor.

The Dutch Way of Studying

As an international student in the Netherlands, you will be confronted with a huge amount of information. You have come to live in a new environment and are suddenly studying at a university where things may be different from your home country.

To help you navigate these obstacles, this workshop provides an introduction to (the culture of) the Dutch education system. You will get a better idea of what your lecturers will ask of you and how the education is organized. You will also learn where you can go if you have any questions. Naturally, you will meet other international students in the same situation.

Number of participants: maximum 15
Duration: 1.5 hours
Date:

  • Wednesday 21 September 3.30 – 5.00 pm (EOS 01.525)
  • Wednesday 28 September 3.30 – 5.00 pm (Location: Studentenkerk/student church, Erasmuslaan 9a, 6525 GE Nijmegen) – After the workshop there's the possibility to participate in Meet & Eat at the Student Church. This is an easy way to get to know other students and eat dinner together from a different culture (for a small price). Click this link for more information and to sign up.
  • Wednesday 5 October 1.30 – 3.00 (EOS 00.260)

Due to its international nature, the workshops will be held in English. Participation is free. Sign up using this form.

Intercultural Awareness & Communication

During the Intercultural Awareness & Communication workshop, you will gain even more insight into your own cultural background and learn how it differs from your fellow students. You will also discover how your cultural background influences your communication style. You will also get to know your fellow students better!
