Cursusdoelen
During this course, you will:
  • become familiar with key feminist and queer theories on gender and sexuality;
  • learn how to recognize and analyze the relations between gender and sexuality and other axes of difference;
  • develop your critical reading skills and discussion of complex texts.
Inhoud
How are gender and sexuality shaped by power structures and social norms? How do we ‘do’ gender in politics, society, and our everyday lives? How have feminist and queer thinkers theorized the relation of gender and sexuality to race, class, and (post)coloniality? And what happens to gender and sexuality when a postcolonial lens is applied?

In this course you learn about critical approaches to theorizing gender and sexuality. The course focuses on feminist and queer theories from the 1980s to the present. Taking an intersectional perspective, the course examines how gender and sexuality are constructed in relation to race/ethnicity, class and capitalism, and the legacies of colonialism.
