Aims
After completing the course, the student can apply the rules of spelling, grammar and punctuation governing the English language and will be sufficiently familiar with academic vocabulary, reading, logic and argumentation in an academic context.
Content

With the aim of letting all our bachelor’s students start their studies as successfully as possible, they are required to take a test of academic language proficiency. Students who are enrolled in an English-taught (specialisation of a) bachelor’s programme complete an academic diagnostic assessment of English: the RADAr (Radboud Academic Diagnostic Assessment) English. The objective of this test is to provide you with more information about your English language skills in an academic context. Passing this test means you have mastered the rules of spelling, grammar and punctuation governing the English language and that you are sufficiently skilled in the areas of academic vocabulary, reading, logic and argumentation.

Participation in the remedial lectures is not compulsory; participation in the RADAr is.

Test information
In preparation for the RADAr, you can attend a university-wide lecture. Subsequently, you can practice your language skills with a digital toolbox on Brightspace. In the course of period 1, you will take the RADAr at a faculty scheduled time. Within a few weeks after test participation, you receive an individual score report. Should you score below the norm, Radboud University offers three seminars in period 2 and 3 to eliminate your deficiencies and also a resit in period 3. We strongly recommend to register for these seminars and for the resit, as a good command of English language skills, is of crucial importance for the successful completion of a bachelor’s programme. Did you score above the norm during the test, but would you still like to get to work on your languages skills? Then you are also welcome to join the seminars.

Participation in the remedial lectures is not compulsory; participation in the RADAr is.
