At the end of this course you will be able to realise your individual research regarding a master thesis Theology on topics from the history of Christianity as well as taking the initial steps for an academically adequate and promising description of a PhD thesis.

This specialisation focuses on the methodical and methodological demands of historical research regarding the topic of the Inquisition. We will also pay special attention to the students’ selected thesis topics.

This is a course for advanced students.
|

Preferably passive mastery of English, German and Latin language, and at least the languages of the sources which are relevant for the topics of research.
Solid prior knowledge about the developments of Christianity in the Western world as well as about the fundamental principles of the historical methods is expected.

You are expected to prepare a short paper for each class, either about methodological and heuristic questions, or about the topic they selected. Preferably these papers will be in the form of a book/article review. At the end of the course, you will write a final paper about their chosen topic, approved by the supervisor.

Active participation is expected. We will also train your argumentation and debate skills.
