Aims
At the end of this course you will be able to realise your individual research regarding a master thesis Theology on topics from the history of Christianity as well as taking the initial steps for an academically adequate and promising description of a PhD thesis.
Content
This specialization focuses on the methodical and methodological demands of historical research. We will pay special attention to the students’ selected thesis topics. 
Level
This is a course for advanced students.
Presumed foreknowledge
Preferably passive mastery of English, German and Latin language, and at least the languages of the sources which are relevant for the topics of research.

Solid prior knowledge about the developments of Christianity in the Western world as well as about the fundamental principles of the historical methods is expected.
Test information
You are expected to prepare a short paper for each class, either about methodological and heuristic questions, or about the topic they selected. Preferably these papers will be in the form of a book/article review. At the end of the course, you  will write a final paper about their chosen topic, approved by the supervisor.
Specifics
Active participation is expected. We will also train your argumentation and debate  skills. Submitting the intermediate papers is mandatory to be able to submit the final paper.
