Content
The course offers an insight into the origins and evolution of International and European Environmental and Sustainability Law. It engages with the history, sources and principles of International Environmental Law in a critical manner. Particular attention will be directed to such topical issues as the rights of the nature with reference to leading cases, and the recognition of ecocide as a crime under international law. Within the context of wider international law, the course delves into various aspects of EU environmental law focusing on key pieces of EU environmental acquis, enforcement of environmental legislation and the legal aspects of the EU Green Deal. In addition, the course will address the role of environment and sustainability in EU external relations.
